We really enjoyed out first visit to the Azores, we loved the peace, the quiet and the clean fresh air.

Good morning Bonita & Ed,
Impression from a visit to the island of Sao- Miguel
With two suitcases we left home to the unknown island, to collect impressions and to rest. The "road" was long between flights but the "sky is the limit" as we say; when we arrived we saw the light under our aero plane.
The first night in the new "zimmer,” we felt a little bit strange somehow………but in the morning we discovered the little paradise and the sea behind. In short time went out to explore the garden and to meet the lovely owners of this place which open their warm heart to us. In the garden around you see the hands of an artist everywhere, in any flower, bush, plant, variety or tree. Sculptures everywhere creations of the artist (Ed.) we admire so much.
Small roads lead to hidden and surprising corners wakeup in the morning with twitting birds and ringing churches. We set our self to the roads with the help of the rented car and the maps. In the small island the distances are short , we discovered green valleys , small beaches , mountain who glides to the sea, forests, pastures and cows everywhere and the lake behind the corner. Working people and , flowers, flowers , flowers , flowers………., Hortensias , Lilies, and others with theirs flying colors between strong thick trunks.
The roads swings up and down between towns and villages and towering churches, new and old in the same place, narrow alleys , big modern houses near old traditional ones, a mix of styles , some made of stones , others concrete and cement .
The views are changing and for us tourists it is a story in which we navigate and participate , and what more one needs when he explores the world ?????? a "zimmer" which is a home that have everything , a car which help him move , an open heart, an open for the new and un known… and tranquility, tranquility which is in other words, Sao Miguel !!!!!!!!!!!

My wife and I had a lovely stay at Quinta das Acacias. We spent 4 days here while touring Portugal including the Algarve and Lisboa. My wife mother and father immigrated to America from Ajuda-Bretanha and Capelas. For my wife to get to see where her parents lived was very special. For me to see my wife enjoy her vacation was very special. Excellent time, nice people, lovely island.

We enjoyed the sea, the beautiful beaches and the giant waves. Also the lovely landscape. We rested in the hammock and in the wonderful garden. It was interesting to feed the lizard with peaches, bananas and melons. Thank you for the friendly hospitality.

We´ve jad a fantastic holiday on the island. Nice weather, nature ,plants and birds, whales and dolphins, etc. The garden is great and we´ve spent alot of time there. Ed and Bonita are wonderful hosts who gave us alot of wonderful info on the island and who did everything to make us comfortable... and we shouldn´t forget to mention `Tommy`who went to see us every evening to chck if everything was fine.

Thank you for our home away from home. We´ve loved sitting on our porch reading and drinking lemongrass tea from the garden.
The walk we enjoyed best was the Salto do Prego one. Lagoa do Fogo was very rewarding, but a pretty steep climb and quite muddy. Serra Devassa should be nice when there´s no fog. Around Furnas lake is a bit boring and the Lomba da Fazenda walk was tiring with all the ascends and descends.
For the urban explorers among us, check out the abandoned hotel Monte Palance at Vista do Rei (Setes Cidades). This hotel closed in 1989 due to its extreme pricing.
We agree on this being a beautiful island!

We wanted to take this opportunity to recount our experience at Quinta das Acacias. We (Molly and Calvin, with our daughter, son-in-law, and two-year-old granddaughter, Spring, Edwin, and Hannah), just spent four days there. It was a wonderful time at a truly unique place.
We told Eduino when we were there that the website didn’t due the Quinta justice and I think we hurt his feelings, but it’s true. When we went on-line to look for accommodations on São Miguel, we were lucky enough to happen upon it. It looked wonderful, but we were sure that excellent, careful photography and imaginative prose portrayed what was probably a nice place as wonderful. When we arrived, we realized that it was quite the opposite: the garden is so spacious, gorgeous and relaxing and the cottages so bright and inviting that pictures can’t capture what the whole place is like adequately. To have a magnificent garden like that, with spectacular flora and sculpture, for a small, intimate accommodation with half a dozen cottages is, in our experience, totally unique.
On top of that, the cottages labeled as self-catering, are far beyond what we expected. Besides their bright, airy tastefulness, their kitchens are the best we’ve seen.
We should also add that the location is terrific – close to Ponta Delgada and the airport (~10 minutes), yet in a very secluded, semi-rural corner of the metro area and almost squarely in the middle of the island (~20 minutes to the top of beautiful Fogo volcano).
All five of us found our stay at Quinta das Acacias to be wonderfully relaxing and at the same time invigorating!

We have truly found paradise on the islandof Sao Miguel. The cottages are cleanand well equipped to make your stay a true relaxing vacation. Each cottage has its own private outdoorbarbecue area where you can make a fire enjoy the outdoors without theinterruption of bugs or other tourists. The Quinta is the perfect place to bring multiple family members. Eachfamily can have their own private cottage yet still get together for morningcoffee or outdoor dinners. The location is close to services and yet you feelas if you are the only people on the island while you are within the beautifullandscaped grounds. Ed is the Leonardoda Vinci of Sao Miguel. Not only are hissculptures and paintings breath- taking, his melding of them with the manyflowers and trees is second to none. Welook forward to visiting again and bringing new friends to enjoy the friendlyefficient comfort you can find at Quinta das Acacias. Thanks also to Bonnie for showing us where the fresh massa sovada was to be found. It was a trip that was everything I haddreamed it would be and more.

We had a terrific time during our visit of 6/1/11 through 6/8/11. This was our third trip to Sao Miguel and this time we brought along six of our relatives which happened to be their first visit.
We were pleased that they enjoyed the island as much as we have in the past. The fact that we found your web site on the internet and chose to stay there was the highlight of our visit. The grounds are magnificient and the accomodations of the three cabins that we occupied were superb. As good as the ambiance was it couldn't match the thoughtfullness and assistance that you two provided us with. You went out of your way to make us feel comfortable and were there to meet our every request. Will definitely return should we visit Sao Miguel again.

Ed and Bonita …. Like we said before, words really do not describe the beauty of Quinta das Acacias, the hospitality both of you gave, and Ed’s wonderful messenger service (next time Ed, my cousin will leave the lapas). There are not to many places where you can wake up and go pick an orange for breakfast.
We have only one regret … we should have stayed longer just to enjoy the Quinta. We arrived May 26, 2011 and departed June 01, 2011. NOT ENOUGH TIME.
We will be back within the next two years, we want to see more of Ed’s creations.

We came across the Azores by pure chance. We had heard of the Islands but had no idea where they were, so we browsed the internet and liked what we saw. Next came where to stay, again back to the net where we kept coming back time and time again to Ed and Bonita's Quinta which looked marvelous. So, decision made we booked the flights .The first contact we had was from Bonita and after a couple of Emails and a personal call from her; we new we had made the right choice. Bonita arranged for the taxi to pick us up from the airport and also arranged the hire car as well as a few store cupboard essentials which made the whole experience so easy, we just paid. We stayed two weeks in our holiday home and enjoyed every minute. We toured Sao Miguel , found walks, even a place in Furnas to soak your bones in naturally hot water, we also visited the Tea Plantation and tasted tea. You can whale watch and much more. All of the cottages are wonderful and the grounds are a small paradise where you can relax . We will return and do not hesitate in recommending Quinta das Acacias and our hosts Ed and Bonita Sousa.

La Quinta das Acacias est un havre de paix sur une île magnifique aux paysages très variés et préservés. On peut aussi bien y faire des promenades en hauteur, avec de très beaux points de vue sur les lacs que profiter de la mer, et notamment de l'observation de baleines. La Quinta est située dans un endroit très pratique pour visiter l'île, les logements agréables et le grand jardin très bien entretenu en font un endroit où il fait bon se détendre après des journées de visites. Les hôtes, Eduino et Bonita sont très accueillants et serviables, et pleins de conseils pour notre séjour. Je garde un très bon souvenir de ces vacances, et de notre séjour à la Quinta das Acacias, et j'espère pouvoir y revenir aussi vite que possible !

A great week to discover my father´s island. We had a chance to have family to visit here in Livramento and Sao Roque. We did travel all around the island and had a chance to feel the spirit of the nature. Enchanting nature, green and flower, layback country in a prestine pasture with lines of stone wall like a labyrinthe. Every view worth a stop; never tired to take a picture. Still to do - go on the water and view the island from it. Maybe next time, yes, we promise to come again!

Thanks very much for two wonderful weeks in Sao Miguel. We highly enjoyed the beautiful scenery, the blue ocean, the high waves on the beach, the nice little villages and typical Azorean items, such as the ceramics, liquers (in every flavour imaginable), nativity scense (a word I only learned here) sausages, cakes, fish.etc. The only thing we failed to enjoyed are the hot pools in Furnas, so I guess we have to return once to the island. Joost also enjoyed his vacation. He thought he could control the waves by waving his hands up and down. He loved the parrots and Tom Tom, and of course those wonderful pretzels. Once more thanks very much for your hospitality and for sharing your beautiful garden.

Nous avons passer en août 9 magnifiques jours à Sao Miguel est tout particulièrement à la Quinta das Acacias. La jardin est vraiment magnifique et les cottages très agrèables.
Bonita et Eduino sont toujours là pour donner des bons conseils,visites, restaurant, etc.
Tout près se trouve la très belle plage das Milicias, très bien équipé douche,toilettes et le bar de plage est très bon et agrèable aussi.
L' Ile de Sao Miguel est très belle,il y a beaucoup de choses à visiter et à faire.
Ma famille et moi avons passer de très belles vacances.

Since we have been lost on every road from Ponta Delgada to Furnas, it has been quite a lovely experience. People have been so kind and gracious to two `Yanks´with literally no knowledge of Portuguese other than `por favor´and `obrigado.´ We feel so fortunate to have been guests of Bonita and Ed and their beautiful Quinta das Acacias. Our stay has been much too short! We will be back and will also refer our friends to your special and lovely homestead.
PS. We have to come back to see the west end of Sao Miguel...and the north!

We found you on-line and we never want to lose you-not only is Quinta das Acacias one of the most incredible garden and sculpture fantasies we have every seen; it also has two of the most wonderful owners imaginable!

Zwei wochen waren wir auf Sao Miguel und haben uns glücklicherweise Quinta das Acácias als Urlaubsdomizil ausgesucht. Wir hatten Cottage #3, das für uns und unseren vierjährigen Sohn ideal war. Direkt vor der Haustür liegt der wunderschöne Garten, in dem wir morgens frühstücken konnten. Da auch ein Grill vorhanden ist, konnten wir öfters den Tag am Feuer mit einem Glas Wein ausklingen lassen. Ed und Bonita sind überaus freundliche Gastgeber, die uns auch viele hilfreiche Informationen für das Erkunden der Insel geben konnten. Oft waren wir am Strand, hier können wir Moinhos im Norden der Insel wärmstens empfehlen.
Alles in allem war es ein gelungener, schöner und erholsamer Urlaub.

Deze zomer hebben wij in Quinta das Acacias doorgebracht. Hele aardige eigenaars en een fantastische tuin. De Quinta is ook heel centraal gelegen, je bent zo in het hoofdstadje en omdat de noord zuid snelweg vlakbij is, ben je ook in korte tijd aan de noordkant van het eiland. De huisjes verschillen nogal van elkaar wat terras en tuin betreft. Bij het eerste huisje was de tuin een beetje erg ingesloten, bij het tweede huisje zat een prachtig terras en uitzicht over de rest van de tuin. Hoe eerder je boekt des te beter dus.

Wir hatten die Bewertungen im Internet gelesen hatten aber solch eine Schönheit und Freundlichkeit nicht erwartet .
Es war wirklich etwas ganz besonderes eure Gäste zu sein.
Die Anlage war wirklich so wie wir uns das Paradies vorstellen würden oft wollten wir gar nicht weg obwohl die Insel auch ein Traum ist !
Unsere Freunde sind von den Bildern und Erzählungen so begeistert das wir nächstes Jahr in großer Anzahl wieder kommen werden :o)!
Aufgrund eurer vielen guten Tips plus Wegbeschreibungen haben wir den Reiseführer gar nicht so oft gebraucht und uns auch nie verlaufen.
Kaum waren wir wieder Zuhause da haben wir euch, unser schönes Haus und den grandiosen Garten auch schon vermisst ... aber Urlaubskonto ist eröffnet und wir freuen uns schon auf ein Wiedersehen mit euch !!!!!!!!!

We had a great time and enjoyed coffee in the morning and wine at night. Saw the whole island in 6 days. Ran every day fron the church in Sao Roque along the water front of Ponta Delgada (and back). Drove all the way down the road in Livramento to the bottom, turn right and park at the church on the left. More great sites: recommend Sete Cidades, Furnas and Nordeste (but don´t drive down the 25% hill - we had to get the locals to drive our car back up). Enjoyed the gardens, the bells and the birds here at Quinta das Acacias. Thanks for everything Bonita & Ed.

If you’re looking for really stunning nature, you have to visit Azores. If possible, go to all the islands as they are truly unique and with individual characteristics. Our highlights were definitely São Miguel, Faial and, last but definitely not least, Flores; do not miss this true pearl, it’s Eden! In São Miguel we stayed in the best possible place: Quinta das Acácias. Close to Ponta Delgada, so handy enough in terms of location but in a quiet place, leading us to relax and rest, involved in beautiful nature and gardens which are exquisitely taken care of by Ed. Ed and Bonita are very welcoming & the houses have all you need. The cherry on top of the cake: Ed is a talented artist who shares his art with the guests; Portuguese galleries, take a look; it’s worth it.Best regards,

What a good place to spend the best days of the year, your vacation! This lovely place from Bonita and Ed is just the right place to forget stressful working days at home. Seppo on kiireinen ja nyt pojat ovat pistäneet monta vuotta vastaan yhdessä matkustelua.
Auto oli saarellanne ihan ehdoton. Pääsimme kulkemaan vaivattomasti ja näkemään paljon.
Etua oli myös siitä, että Salla oli oppaanamme ja tiesi mihin meitä vei.
Asumuksemme oli siisti, viihtyisä ja hyvin hoidettu. Puutarha oli kuin paratiisi.
En edes pystynyt laskemaan kuinka monta erilaista kukkalaatua siellä kasvoi.
Pidätte koko paikasta hyvää huolta koko sydämestänne.
Olitte myös hyvin avuliaita ja huolehtivaisia.
Välitön luonteenne teki teistä helposti lähestyttäviä ja teille uskalsi puhua huonollakin kielitaidolla.
Sydän jäi sinne (eikä vähiten siksi, että Salla on siellä vielä ainakin 2 kk).

Quinta das Acacias is a credit to Ed and Bonita because they have created a little piece of heaven for us intrepid and weary travellers to enjoy. It is full of peace and serenity. The gardens are a delight. I particularly enjoyed sitting in the lowest level and listening to the birds and watching the lizards and the butterflies and the bees, reflecting on the often absurd nature of our lives: running around and working harder than is healthy.
Quinta das Acacias offers us the chance to completely unwind and restore ourselves. Ed and Bonita are such positive, happy, and friendly people who make one´s stay here very enjoyable. We have so much enjoyed the time that we have spent with them.
The island has much that is of interest, so much so that one visit is not enough to discover all of its charms. The landscape that it offers us for our exploration is so varied and interesting; differing from west and east and north and south. The weather too is equally changeable. Top tip: if all looks grey to the west, head east and you are bound to hit some sun.
A meal overlooking the harbour at Vila Franca do Campo is extremely pleasant.
The people of the island are all very friendly and obliging.
An extremely efficient and exciting way to see the island is by motorbike. Bikes can be leased from ANC above the harbour in Ponta Delgada, but obviously you need to be a proficient bike rider. André who owns ANC is extremely obliging.Tel: (351)967309909
Whalewatching with Futurismo from Ponta Delgada in a katamaran is an absolute must. We went twice and on our second trip saw a group of 5 sperm whales at rest on the surface: an experience to take to one´s death bed. The price of trips gets cheaper each time.
Overall São Miguel and its tourism industry is charming, naive and understated, let us hope it stays that way.
We will most definitely be back to continue our explorations and to tap into the positive and peaceful energy of Quinta das Acacias that has been created by Ed and Bonita.

Hi, this is Peri´s and Etana´s dad. I had the pleasure of starting our stay as Ed was trying to complete the remodeling of a unit in time for guests in a few days. Ed demonstrated how one should deal with stress. Although under pressure, he always had time for a smile and laugh. I will try to learn from him in my work. Obviously, this place is a gem and Bonita and Ed makes this place even more special. Thanks!

Indeed Bonita and Ed, this place is a little paradise. Not only your houses and gardens, but also the island, including the people we met.
5 days-this island and we got no rain. Can you believe this, is such a green place? Some advise for the tourists:
-We tried PR4, starting from Set Cidades. Wonderful views on the sea and the lakes.
-We also did PR3, starting from the top. The part of the little top , above Lagoa do Fogo is really worth being done. Beware of the seagulls!
-Of course, we also ran the PR6 at Furnas. They say it is cut because of fallen trees. but, as usual, we can pass.
For sure, we will come back again. Thank you for everything!

Thanks for a great 9 days at the cottage and the spectacular gardens. We were able to relaz and really unwind. Your friendly help and advice was always appreciated as were visit from `Tom´.
there are so many places to visit / explore on the island and the pleasures are everywhere-except perhaps the rural area driving, but then the area may not be the same when the new roofs are completed.
We are able to do all the novel things like walking around Ponta Delgada, strolling the rim around Sete Cidades and poking around Furnas-but perhaps the unexpected was the most fun-the beach at Mosteiros with teh sea treks,wandering the quiet village of provaçao, the ocean pool swimming in lagoa, and the walk down to the dock area at Ponta arnel out of Nordeste. The climb up and views from Pico da Vara were spectacular, Faial de Terra too.
We hope to return to the quinta another day to revisit our favorite places on the island and explore those we missed.

Wir haben 3 wunderschöne Tage in Quinta das Acacias verbracht. Ein wunderschöner Garten, sehr ruhig und friedlich, geräumige und gut ausgestatette Zimmer und Küche. Ed und Bonita sind sehr freundlich, nett und hilfsbereit. Während unseres 2wöchigen Aufenthalts auf den Azoren waren wir insgesamt in 5 Unterkünften untergebracht, und die Quinta war die schönste von allen. Wenn wir das nächste Mal nach Sao Miquel reisen, werden wir definitiv wieder in Quinta das Acacias bleiben (dann jedoch länger als 3 Tage). Sao Miquel ist eine sehr schöne Insel und auf alle Fälle eine Reise wert; es gibt hier viele wundervolle Ecken (z.B. Lagoa Verde und Azul, Pico da Vara).

Our holiday on the Azores didn’t start very well with our connecting flight in Lisbon being delayed for hours and our luggage missing when we finally arrived in Ponta Delgada.
But the warm welcome by Bonita and Eduino (almost at midnight!) was a real comfort. It was only in the morning that we discovered the fine setting of the Quinta with its magnificent garden.
We enjoyed our stay on Sao Miguel very much and plan to be back one day to visit the things we missed this time.

One week is a short time on this Ilha Verde. There is so many beautiful sceneries, so many mysterious plants, wonderful trees... and the great Atlantic ocean with his waves and dolphins.
We tried to see as much as we could and so had too little time to spend in your fantastic and philosophic garden! The cottage is really good and the view, perfect with stars, clouds, or sunset. Thank you very much Bonita and Eduino! We loved every moment!

A really beautiful and nice place, good cottages and Bonita, Ed and Brandon were the perfect hosts. Thanks alot! The weather ok, hard to believe it is winter here. The golf courts absolutely the best. Hopefully we can be back some day to be with Laila and Ilpo if they decide to come here again!

"Paradies mit netten Vermietern"
"Wir fanden eine schöne Unterkunft mit sehr netten Vermietern vor. Die Ausstattung des Bungalows war gut und ein finisches Ehepaar hat sich gleich für 6 Monate eingemietet. Das "Akazien-Landgut" liegt nur 4 Autominuten von Ponta Delgada, ein Stück unterhalb der neuen Autobahn, die aber nicht stört. Die Wege zum Strand, Supermarkt oder Lokalen sind für einen täglichen Fußmarsch weit, so dass man ohne Auto schlecht auskommt. Es gibt 4 Häuser. Davon sind 3 Häuser mit jeweils zwei Appartments (übereinander angeordnete Bungalows). Jeder Bungalow verfügt jedoch über einen eigenen Eingang auf der entgegengesetzten Seite, so dass man sich nicht stört.
Die Häuser stehen in einem sehr schönen grünen riesigen Garten, umrundet mit einer Lavastein-Mauer. Der Garten wird liebevoll von den Vermietern gepflegt. Es gibt für jeden Mieter Gartenstühle und -liegen. Platz auf dem Rasen zum Sonnen und eine Barbecue-Stelle für jeden sind auch vorhanden. Sollte trotzdem etwas im oder am Haus fehlen, so ist es kein Problem sich bei den Vermietern zu melden.
Als Empfehlung kann ich nur wiederholen: Quinta das Acacias - where the rest begins!

Empfehlung: die Quinta das Acacias ist perfekt geeignet für Individualtouristen, Honeymooner oder gestreßte Großstädter, die endlich wieder die Natur genießen wollen.
Wichtig: die Quinta ist auf Selbstversorgung ausgerichtet und man
benötigt unbedingt einen Leihwagen!
Good to know: die Anlage beherbergt Urlauber aus aller Herren Länder, ist also kein "typisches deutsches Domizil".

What a great vacation! We've only had a week, but we've enjoyed every minute-from the flower-lined streets to the quaint villages, from the breathtaking peaks to the black sand beaches.
Bonita and Ed's hospitality, along with this central location and the paradise-like landscaping have really made us huge fans at

More beautiful than the pictures we had seen before our stay. Peaceful and serene. The grounds and cottages were immaculate, you could tell that the owners take great pride in their Quinta.
Ed and Bonita were wonderful hosts and very helpful not only with sight seeing suggestions but also simple things like where to buy groceries etc.
The island itself is beautiful with alot of wonderful places to see and explore.
Would definitely recommend the Quinta to everyone we know.

"A little piece of heaven!!!"
The minute we came through the gates, we were in heaven. It is so beautiful and peaceful I can't even put it into words. The pictures do not do justice to what is actually there. We travel all around the world and this is one of the cleanest, best maintained places we have ever been.
Bonita and Eduino are very special people and you can tell that they love what they are doing. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with them and their slice of heaven.

"Hands Down, Best Place to Stay in Sao Miguel!"
My fiance and I have just returned from a week stay at the Quinta and cannot think of a better place to stay. The property is fantastically maintained and the cottages are immaculate. There's a full stove, refrigerator, microwave & every other appliance one could need to have a home-cooked meal or prepare a nice breakfast before a full day of sight seeing.
The property owners go above & beyond to make their guests have a vacation that best suits their needs- such as arranging a taxi, recommending tours, and even restaurants. They even have the property lit until midnight so that guests can enjoy a nice glass of wine while taking a stroll under the stars. I would without a doubt recommend Quinta das Acacias to anyone looking for a quaint place to call home while on holiday- the property itself is a mini-paradise.

There is nothing quite like being at Ed and Bonita's Quinta. A view of the ocean, a smell of the flowers, a sense of serenity.
If anyone is looking for a place unique to this world, I highly recommend Azores. And what better way to appreciate it than in a comfortable vacationing area like this quinta.
